Abstract

Ultracold gases of neutral atoms provide a powerful technological platform for engineering synthetic quantum systems with ample tunability of the experimental parameters. I will give an introduction to the new possibilities which are opened by the manipulation of ultracold Fermi gases of two-electron atoms, including the realization of multi-component fermionic systems and the engineering of new kind of interactions emerging from the accurate quantum control of different internal degrees of freedom (both nuclear and electronic).
