Abstract

Black phosphorus is emerging as an exceptionally appealing material for future electronic and optoelectronic applications. Its high electronic mobility coupled to the presence of a direct and thickness-dependent infrared band gap makes it perfectly complementary to semi-metallic graphene and wide band-gap 2D dichalchogenide compounds. We present here the pressure-dependent infrared properties of black phosphorus. Optical data highlight the occurrence at room temperature of a topological Lifshitz transition at about 1.5 GPa.
