The Fisher information (FI) can witness multipartite entanglement. This sheds light on a profound relation between the distinguishability of quantum states (characterized by the FI through the Cramer-Rao theorem), and entanglement. The framework encompasses quantum technologies for metrology and interferometric phase estimations, up to the characterization of topological quantum phases and quantum phase transitions.
