Abstract

 Besides Kitaev’s proposal, the emergence of zero-energy Majorana Modes (MMs) in condensed matter systems has been predicted in a considerable number of systems. In this context we discuss the emergence of MMs in a p-wave 1D finite-length superconducting ring, pierced by a magnetic flux Φ. We evidence that, at a moderate amount of disorder, is possible to have MMs by looking at the discontinuities in the persistent current, I[Φ], induced in the ring by the applied flux Φ at an appropriate value Φ=Φ. By monitoring the discontinuities in I[Φ], we map out the region in parameter space characterized by the emergence of Majorana modes in the disordered ring.
