Abstract
We report on recent experiments carried out at the beamline EIS-TIMEX of FERMI
designed for investigating condensed matter driven out of equilibrium by exposure
to sub-100 fs laser or FEL pulses.
A thorough description of the experimental setup is provided including novel 
methods developed for FEL/laser pump-probe experiments as well as effective
technical strategies for improving the signal-to-noise ratio in single-shot 
FEL experiments.
Some recent experiments recently carried out on nonequilibrium samples 
are presented such as i) free-free absorption coefficient of Al
under high energy density regime, ii) sub-ps dynamics of the M4,5-edge of Ge,
iii) second harmonic generation from graphite exposed to FEL radiation,
iv) FEL-driven stimulated L-emission from MgO, v) FEL-triggered magnons in NiO films
